Reading all the feedback on yesterday’s article was an absolute joy, I am so grateful to witness each time that so many of you take a second to read my thoughts, even if it can be quite a bit. I truly believe that it’s so important to express ourselves on the things that matter to us, to verbalise our feelings and put it out there. There’s no doubt other people might deal with the same issues, ask themselves the same questions… isn’t it so empowering and uplifting to be able to share this introspective experience together and help each other grow our knowledge and understanding?
I don’t think we can know and understand everything that’s out there. Even if we tried or really wanted to. Neither do I think we can all profoundly understand the mechanisms of each other, or even of ourselves. A lot of it seems to be so abstract, contradictory even… And yet it is actually quite fascinating to leave some things unanswered. If it was that easy to find answers to everything, life would be pretty boring, wouldn’t it? I have a tendency to be willing to analyze it all, to take ten step backs and observe things rationally, objectively. My opinion keeps evolving of course, sometimes even changing throughout the years. But one thing I know for sure, is that being open minded has been the most rewarding and life changing approches ever.
I’ve read yesterday some comments from you guys which said that you miss my old outfit posts… And I completely understand the remark. It is the type of content you could regularly find here on Kayture a few years ago. But, it is true, as you might have noticed, that I am not so much interested anymore in limiting myself to these kind of entries. I do understand how nice it is, but I couldn’t help myself but find in it a certain shallowness. I wanted to push the enveloppe and make out of each article, an editorial with a real artistic direction and theme. I think I grew past the point of wanting to shoot outfit posts and I wanted to challenge myself to explore different approaches to what I want to show or say. I felt like there was much more I wanted to offer. Also, it felt to me like there was a redundancy with my social media where I was already showing some of my looks and that Kayture should be used for bigger matters.
Fashion has always been one of my favorite forms of creative expression, simply because it is a way to say something about ourselves without having to speak and a way to express a bit about our world throughout our appearance. However, it appeared to me in my daily life that I wanted to care less about it and just be more chill about fashion, designers, always being on point… I just wanted to feel good, be myself, dress comfortably and not spent so much time thinking about it. Suddenly I thought, wait, I am 22 years old and how many designer bags do I have? Is it really necessary? This fast consumption of clothes, of trends became tiring to me. I needed to find a balance again by toning it down and bringing it back to basics. So most of my free time I’d spend it in the recording studio, in my jeans and white t-shirt, or hanging out with my friends in my favorite silk shirt. I’d throw it on without even thinking about color coordinating or the latest season’s accessories.
Having a blog and social media is a pressure of course to always innovate, wear the latest trends, even if I hate trends, create new looks, aesthetics… to the extend where I lost the point of it. We all know how fast life’s pace is today, well in fashion it’s the same thing and no doubt why so many designers quit their jobs. We are in an era of fast fashion, fast consumption where quantity wins over quality and conversion is valued over innovation. My brain was saturated. And you might think, saying all these things is so hypocrite coming from a fashion girl. Well trust me, I am trying to balance my life and my friends, music, life and general made me realize what a privileged little bubble of luxury and dreams fashion industry is. It isn’t the real world, a lot of it is in fact a bit superficial if you aren’t able to take a step back and enjoy it with a certain objectivity. I love fashion, and you will keep seing me at fashion weeks, but I think more important matters should be discussed sometimes, and my content here on Kayture, I really hope it’ll keep evolving into something truly meaningful, inspiring and beautiful.
So if you ever see me outside events or fashion weeks, you’ll probably notice how I always wear my beloved staples and pieces I feel good and comfortable in. It has been ages since my last crazy shopping spree and I take advantage of my great projects with brands I love to create new looks, images and aesthetics. Like today, I had the opportunity to partner with Charles & Keith which is this fantastic shoe brand to create various look around each pair. This is why I love working with brands, it gives me a canvas in a way, a reason to create something with a real theme, goal, subject. I love today’s pictures… We shot them a while ago as you can see by my hair color. Surprisingly, I don’t miss my blonde hair that much. I am SO happy as a brunette. But it is sweet to have this little throwback. So we have a more California inspired set and another one, more Lolita like with the nude platforms. I hope you guys will enjoy it. Make sure to check out their website where I gave a little interview too! xxx

Ok... it is true, sometimes we all do miss your old fashion pictures. But personally, watching these pictures of yours and comparing with the new ones... don't take me wrong Kristina, really: you are totally gorgeous here, I love your outfits and I love your class but... ok, I must admit it, your new pictures have something with them that, I don't know, I end up liking the "new" Kristina better (you are still the same person, it's the "package" that is new, not "you"). Oh, and by the way, don't believe those who say you looked better as a blonde. You look totally cool as a brunette. And you'd look just as cool with black hair (I am quite sure of it after seeing your Pulp series). I wonder if red would become you either... *shrug*. Keep up the good job Kristina! Can't wait for your next interesting post to read!

J'aime beaucoup les looks créés pour ces photos, et j'adore le top à manches longues rayés :)
J'aime bien ce que tu dis à propos du milieu de la mode... Alors je vais peut être partir dans tous le sens, je préfère prévenir ;)
Ça me fait penser à quelque chose.

Love your way of expressing yourself !!! Your writing skills are great ! And everyone is changing ... constantly and I am so with you on not posting solely outfit posts anymore. Doing it more with a twist might be a bit more challenging but also so much more fun and creative :)

I really love what you wrote here. I am always struggling to deal with balancing my passion for the artistry of the fashion industry with the vanity that tends to follow. And of course, you look lovely in these photos, as always. Especially in the layered look with the silk dress!

Hi Kristina, thanks for sharing this post, it was really needed.
In terms of what I meant by your old outfit shoots, I didn't mean they had to be all designer and just about fashion trends. From my point of view I loved seeing the realness and candidness there of your outfit you chose to wear, how it reflects your personality and the realness of it. Whether this be a simple t-shirt and jeans with flats, or something a bit more, that's what I really enjoyed as it showed an aspect of your personality and life that I connected with quite well.
I'm really glad you do take the time to read and take in everyone's comments though, that's good. I do the same on my blog. I also understand how fake the fashion industry is, I've worked in it for the last 10 years myself and I do always take a step back, think about things and just see a bit more clearly. In fact the last year I've only bought staple pieces that I'd wear often and cherish forever, I'm not into the fast fashion anymore.
Perhaps if you don't feel comfortable doing outfit shoots anymore, you might be able to do whatever you're wearing in a casual way, whether it's stylish or not, but then include it in an article that's kind of like a diary. I know most of your posts you write are lengthy and about what you're up to or feeling, but topics like this one you discussed here are heartfelt and raw, very real, so even posts like that, alongside the collaborations would be fantastic. Obviously it's just an idea, we all connect with you on a real and personal level, which can be hard to come across in campaigns/collaborations sometimes.
Hope that makes sense! Lorna.

You have honestly just verbalized my hesitation of becoming a fashion blogger Kristina! I have recently just started my blog after a lot of deliberation about whether simply writing about fashion and owning lots of clothes is too shallow and meaningless. And you've just shown me how it doesn't have to be! Hopefully in the future I will be brave enough like you to speak out about topics that are close to my heart and issues that I care about. Thank you!

I miss your old outfit posts too, Kristina, but I love following your adventures and seeing what you're up to next on projects, travel, life, things like that more. You're right. Like I've told you before, you're my favorite fashion blogger/entrepreneur (and this is coming from someone who is eight years older than you, ha!) and the reason why I follow you is because you're not like the cookie cutter bloggers out there who constantly publish sponsored posts. I understand the need to get paid to use your platform, but there's a difference between passionate editorial collaborations and the obvious, I'm-getting-paid-to-hold-or-wear-this-product and trust me, as an avid blog reader, I can tell when bloggers are being lazy and it's so disappointing to see that they get paid or free product for barely trying. I'd be giving it 110% if a brand or company I adore partners with me!
I understand what you mean on the material consumption. Although I have some designer bags myself (like 2, lol!), I've questioned my purchases within this last year and ask if I really need it or do I want it. That's not to say that having a beautiful closet such as yours is wrong (I could live in there and play dress up all day!), but you know when to stop. I also know you just won't "throw things away" you no longer like or feel attached to because you'd give it away or sell it to someone else who might enjoy it if you felt led to do so.
You're still young and I love that you are very aware of your surroundings and are focused on being in the moment especially in a fast-paced, technology-driven world. It's nice to see you follow your dreams, work for yourself, get to travel to the most beautiful places, wear the most beautiful pieces of artwork and work with passionate and creative people. Not many can say that especially for someone at your age, but the thing that separates you from the rest of the cookie-cutter bloggers is that you sincerely work your butt off!
I would like to see your recommendations on where to get affordable yet high-quality clothing or what to wear for a professional shoot for launching a website as an entrepreneur, beauty tips and posts like the big make up one you did several summers ago. (I miss Fiona's posts too!) I hope you'll consider some of these themes as you continue to evolve! :)

Beautiful photos and shoes! Personally I love your editorial style shots, they're a real treat for the eyes.
http://looking-glass.caI understand what you mean about the fashion industry. It's something I've always loved, yet after working in it for several years now it sometimes seems pretty ridiculous.
I work in a job where women are told that they should throw out all their clothes every few seasons and replace it all and I hate that. I think we should all wear whatever we want, whenever we want - and the important thing should be feeling good, not wearing what you think someone else wants you to wear.
However I still love fashion - I just think we should all take a more personal approach to it rather than a trend-driven one.

I agree with your statements that we are way too obsessed with what is new and buying too many trendy things. I'm also trying to dial back on the shopping and find pieces that I truly love wearing and feel comfortable in, and spend money on travel or friends, and other experiences. It's great that you get to experiment with new brands and have goals in mind for the new things you try!

A few points:
I really enjoyed this article and the last. It's raw and unedited and that's something we usually don't get to see from you. This is coming from someone who has followed every inch of your craft for the last 5 years. I'm a huge fan. :)
I disagree so strongly with those who say you should stay in your box and continue to post articles about expensive clothes, good food and fancy parties. There is nothing wrong with these things; in fact they often serve as a comfortable distraction from our everyday lives, our thoughts, our dreams and most importantly, what is real and maybe, that's the problem.
The question is what kind of people do we want to see around us? What kind of generation do we want to grow up with? As influencers, our content is detrimental to society. We can either mould people to love vanity and narcissism or we can condition them to have compassion, to be passionate about life, to dig deep and find a deeper meaning to life, to have purpose, to strive for a better life, not a meaningless life.
I want young people to want to create things that will matter, to have a vision and most importantly to have passion and a unique zest for life. Materials things come and go Ms. Bazan but integrity is forever. You are so talented in delivering a vision. You make people want to listen, and with that there is no greater power.
The world is so dependent on the concept of demand and supply. People like to think that where there is no demand, there is no point but that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Here's the truth: people will demand whatever you supply - so long as enough people are supplying. I believe that is what happened with the fashion blogging epitome and it worked, but It looks like it's time for a new revolution.
I know in my heart you are capable of so much more than expensive clothes and fancy parties. So please, continue to write songs and articles that you think will impact the world. Change people's minds about things that matter to you, open your heart and curate the next generation of the 21st century. The power is ultimately yours.
Bisous

Dear Kristina,
Commonly, I am not the one who leaves comments on posts or articles. But today I must say that this article totally blew my mind, it has completely changed my vision of you. I used to like you for your amazing outfits and fashion, your unique face and expression which says a lot in just a glance. Now I don't like you, I admire you (which of course is ”Excelsior. It’s a lifestyle.”better). You don't imagine how much I value your braveness and attitude. I will tell you about me now. I've been running my blog www.excelsiorisalifestyle.com for quite some months now, but I haven't been receiving the feedback I expected. Nos that I expected to become famous or something like that, but I expected people to value more a unique, full of personality and reflections site. I really love fashion too but since the beginning I have tried to use fashion as a mean to express my inner thoughts and most of all share them with others with the objective of helping people life a happier and full of Love and passion life. So when I reas your article it really uplifted me, pushing me to go further, to keep going, to not stay in the superficial side of things. Thank you for that. I hope you have the time to check out my blog and tell me your thoughts. And maybe if you like it keep reading it. Just to introduce you to my Excelsior world my anthem is ”Excelsior. It’s a lifestyle.” It is a blog in which we believe that if you keep positive you will always have the good side of things. Take care and keep loving, keep fighting for a better world. Mariate

Its been a long time since I commented on your blog.
I do it only when something you wrote really touches me.
This is exactly way to go. For bloggers, for fashion, for us, followers. Minimalism is everything. Fashion person does not have to be overspending or pretending. It means you have your own style you can create with all the same staples. Or make editorials as you mentioned. Refined, for pictures only.
Real life feels better, doesnt it? Its so different. Lets not consume what everyone else is on social media.
I would love to hear more on the pychological note. Have you ever suffered from any difficulties? Anxiety, panic attacks, depression? Mental stability is so hard to sustain in this age. Hard topic indeed.
Thank you for your change. We evolve with you.

I really like this article! Even though I have nothing from designers my closet is overflowing and somehow I always find something new I really 'need'. And after a few weeks something else replaces it, such a waste! I always liked your outfit shoots and, generally, I do still like to see them as inspiration. It is always great to read you Kristina. I have left a rather lenghty comment on your OUT post, and now I think of a little privilege to be the first to comment this one. Once again I concur with all you say here but most of all I keep finding a deep inspiration in all that you say and do. Like I mentioned before, I had the great chance to meet you twice in the real world out there and I could actually tell you how important sharing your success is for my girlfriend and I. I am also chasing many dreams, and like I said before, all you do helps me believe we can do it. If we work with passion, we can soar high to the stars. Thank you for this post too Kristina and thank you for taking the time to share your life with us. I will always read your thoughts, whether they are about fashion, or more important matters as you say. Keep talking to us, your words do make the world a bit better a place, believe me.
Good luck with everything Kristina.
